The Chisago County Sheriff's Office Solid Waste Enforcement Division protects the health, welfare, and safety of those who live, work, and/or visit Chisago County, in order to conserve the local and natural resources and to protect the water, air, and land in Chisago County through both education and enforcement.
Waste reduction encompasses several different issues related to solid waste, recycling, and household hazardous waste. The Chisago County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the Chisago County Environmental Services Department, has 1 full time deputy assigned to promoting and enforcing conformation to county ordinances governing conditional use permits and regulating burning. Approximately 60% of Chisago County Environmental Services Department's complaints are in regard to junk vehicles and other outside storage concerns. In Chisago County, keeping a junk vehicle or a vehicle that has not been properly licensed for two years is prohibited if it can be seen from a public road or from the main floor of any dwelling. Furthermore, any site in which two or more junk vehicles are stored in the open meets the criteria of a junkyard in Chisago County.
If you know of a junk vehicle problem, garbage issues, or have other outside storage concerns, contact the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) at 651-257-4100.
