[ARCHIVED] Winter Hazard Awareness Week (November 14 - 18, 2022)

Trees Covered with Frost

Today kicks off the 2022-2023 Winter Weather Awareness Week in both Wisconsin and Minnesota, appropriately timed with the first major winter system in NW Minnesota and cold temperatures for the rest of us! Winter Weather Awareness Week is orchestrated together with the Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the State of Wisconsin Emergency Management, and the National Weather Service Offices that serve both states. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the planned events and become more aware of the dangers of winter weather in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

To help Minnesota residents minimize the risks of winter, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, in collaboration with the National Weather Service and other state, federal, and non-profit agencies, sponsors Winter Hazard Awareness Week each fall.

The event includes a media campaign, website promotion and social media posts. The week-long effort provides specific information each day that can be used in conjunction with school, church, or civic programs.
