SUNRISE PRAIRIE REGIONAL TRAIL CLOSES FOR REPAVING
STARTING JULY 17TH THE TRAIL IS CLOSED FOR PUBLIC USE
Chisago County Commissioners recently approved a contract with HardDrives, Inc. out of Rogers, Minnesota. Harddrives will be completing trail base improvements, new bituminous pavement and a pedestrian crosswalk flasher system at County roads 17 and 19 at the trail intersections. This includes new pavement from the south county line just north of Forest Lake to State Highway 95 in North Branch. The project is expected to be complete by August 30th. Chisago County was fortunate to secure significant funding for the project through the Land, Water and Conservation Legacy Fund, Regional Parks and Trails Commission grants program initiated by Minnesota voter in 2008.
Chisago County Commissioners, Park Board and Foundation Board members have documented significant benefits that the trails provide both residents and businesses in Chisago County. In a recent Parks and Trails Comprehensive Plan, County Commissioners supported the concept of connecting our communities, allowing links between residential areas, schools, parks and commercial areas. Foundation Board Member and Center City Mayor Larry Houger works to promote trail improvements in Chisago County, Houger says it makes the County a great place to work and live.
