The Chisago County Environmental Services Department encourages the public to attend a public hearing for a proposed aggregate mining project located in Sunrise Township. The project would be an expansion of an existing mining and processing facility located north and east of the Town of Sunrise.
The public hearing will be held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 7 p.m. in Room 150B of the Chisago County Government Center, 313 North Main Street in Center City.
The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) for the proposed mining project. The EAW analyzes the potential environmental impacts of the proposed project, and will be reviewed by state, federal and local agencies and the public.
The proposed project would expand an existing aggregate mine and processing facility operated by Tiller Corporation under permits issued by Chisago county. The existing facility includes 139 acres. The project will expand the mining and processing to an additional 31.5 acres south of the existing mine. The EAW analyzes the impacts of the proposed expansion and cumulative impacts of the combined mining area.
The public hearing will include a presentation about the proposed project. The public may attend the public hearing and submit verbal comments that will become part of the official public hearing record, or may submit written comments at the meeting or to the County until the close of the 30-day comment period on October 24, 2018. Comments should be submitted to Kurt Schneider, Environmental Services Director, 313 North Main Street, Room 243, Center City, MN 55012.
